Willow Tree is a small regional railway station located on the Main Northern railway line, serving a village of the same name. The station consists of 1 platform in a side formation.

History[]

The station opened as Warrah on 13 August 1877, when the line was extended from Murrurundi to Quirindi. The station was renamed to Willow Tree in 1879. [1]

In 1929, the station received new station buildings, after the originals were destroyed in a fire. In 1960, the station platform was extended. [2]

Configuration[]

Willow Tree has a passing loop and two sidings. There is only a single platform, facing the main line.

Services[]

Willow Tree station is served by the Northern Tablelands Express Xplorer every day going from Sydney to Moree and Armidale and back. The Moree and Armidale services are part of the same train, until they get to Werris Creek, where the train divides. The Sydney service departs at 11:41am, while the Armidale and Moree services depart at 2:25pm. The station is a request stop, so trains only stop if passengers are booked to use the station. [3]
