Wiley Park railway station is a station on the T3 Bankstown Line of the Sydney Trains network, located in the suburb of Wiley Park. Station entry is accessed through stairs from an overpass on King Georges Road.
Wiley Park is staffed from 6:00am to 7:00pm on weekdays, and 8:00am to 4:00pm on weekends and public holidays. [1]
History[]
Wiley Park station opened on 19 June 1938, well after the line from Belmore to Bankstown opened in 1909, to provide an interchange with King Georges Road. Construction was financed by Canterbury Council.[2] While adjacent stations have island platforms, this station was built with side platforms and the architecture of the station buildings is significantly different.
Sydney Metro conversion[]
Wiley Park will cease operation of Sydney Trains heavy rail services by the end of 2023 as the Sydenham to Bankstown section of the Bankstown Line will undergo conversion to serve the Sydney Metro City & Southwest single-deck driverless rapid-transit rail network. The station will close for 6-7 months in late 2023 in order to undergo work while it reopens as a Metro-only station in 2024.
Starting in December 2019, the Bankstown Line stations between Sydenham and Bankstown will also undergo partial closures during the December/January school holiday periods (including New Year’s Eve) up until 2023. The closures will be for minor preliminary works before the main closure in 2023.
The EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) showed that the concourse would be demolished and rebuilt, however a more detailed design released in March 2021 changed this to retaining the current concourse. As with all other metro stations, lifts (to meet DDA requirements) and platform screen doors (for safety) will be
installed. The platforms will also be resurfaced, with the edge rebuilt to meet accessibility standards.
Platforms and Services[]
Wiley Park is served by all stops services on the Bankstown line, normally at the frequency of 4 trains per hour, with additional services during the peak.
