Westmead is a railway station on the Main Western line of the Sydney Trains network. It serves the suburb of Westmead and the local hospital precinct. Station entry is from a concourse off Railway Parade and Alexandra Avenue.
Westmead station opened in March 1883. To the east of the station lies a dive for the Up Main track. This was opened in 1986 when the line was quadruplicated. This is built because the track arrangement changes as follows:
↑ West
Up Main, Up Suburban, Down Suburban, Down Main
Up Suburban, Down Suburban, Up Main, Down Main
↓ East
Between 1922 and 1932, the Rogans Hill line branched from the Main Western line immediately to the west of Westmead station.
Sydney Metro Upgrade[]
Westmead will be undergoing an upgrade to accommodate the Sydney Metro West rapid-transit network. Two underground platforms to the south of the station site will be built starting in 2020, with a new concourse connecting the train and Metro platforms.
