Kingswood Werrington St Marys

Werrington railway station is located along the Main Western Line and is 49.1km from Sydney CBD.[1] It serves the suburbs of Claremont Meadows, Werrington County and Werrington. The station consists of two side platforms linked by a disability-accessible overhead concourse and footbridge. Werrington is served by Sydney Trains T1 Western Line trains in both directions.

Werrington is the 142nd most patronised railway station in Sydney (out of a total of 176 stations), with an average of 1120 passengers boarding per day.

History

Werrington railway station was originally built in May 1878 as Parkes Platform. It was adjacent to Werrington House, the then residence of Sir Henry Parkes, a prominent political figure who served five terms as premier for NSW between 1872 and 1891.[3] In 1883, the platform was opened for public use and in 1893 it was renamed Werrington. A rail overpass was constructed in 1981, as the man-made Werrington lake was created to alleviate local flooding issues.[4]

The station received an accessibility upgrade in June 2008, with the installation of lifts to the platform and concourse as well as an accessible toilet. The upgrade included the installation of the first photovoltaic solar panels at a railway station in Sydney. An upgrade to the commuter car park was completed in June 2010.

Werrington is served by Sydney Trains T1 Western Line services, usually at a frequency of 4tph (trains per hour) in each direction, boosted to 8tph during the morning peak.
