Wentworthville railway station is located along the Main Western line and is 26.6km from Sydney CBD.[1] It serves the suburbs of Constitution Hill, Wentworthville and South Wentworthville. The station consists of 2 islands (forming 4 platforms) and is accessed from Wentworth Avenue and The Kingsway. Wentworthville is serviced by T1 Western and T5 Cumberland line trains in both directions.
Wentworthville is staffed from 6:00am to 7:00pm on weekdays, and 8:00am to 4:00pm on weekends and public holidays.[2]
History[]
Wentworthville station opened in 1883 as TR Smiths Platform, being renamed Wentworthville on 1 August 1885. The station was rebuilt in the 1940s when the Main Western line was quadrupled.
On 27 December 1989, an 8-car Tangara set derailed at Wentworthville. Driving trailer car D6127 was badly damaged from the accident, and was later scrapped. Motor car N5127 was later withdrawn from service following the accident and was sent to Dunheved along with control motor car C3866 for firefighter training. D6127 and N5127 were subsequently replaced by D6285 and N5285, which are now currently part of set T19. It was the first notable accident involving the Tangara fleet.
Upgrades[]
Under the Transport Access Program, Wentworthville received a station upgrade to improve accessibility. Work began in 2015 with significant additions including: a new concourse and stairs, new lifts to concourse/platforms, and "refurbishments of the existing footbridge, pedestrian access and transport interchange improvements."[3]
The project ended in late 2017 and was fully operational by the new year.
A new commuter car park is being planned at Wentworthville, as part of the government's $3 billion Infrastructure and Job Acceleration Fund. [4]
Platforms and Services[]
Wentworthville is served by both T1 and T5 services, usually at a frequency of 4 trains per hour.
