Waratah railway station is on the Hunter line of the NSW TrainLink network. It serves the Newcastle suburbs of Waratah, Georgetown, Mayfield and Mayfield East. The station is staffed in the day.
History[]
The station opened on 9th March 1858. [1]
Works are underway for a transport upgrade at Waratah to improve accessibility at the station, as part of the Transport Access Program. Key benefits include three new lifts, upgrades to the existing stairs, new pedestrian pathways, improvements to CCTV and lighting and a new family accessible toilet and unisex ambulant toilet. Early work and site establishment commenced in May 2019 with major construction starting the following month. The upgrade is expected to be completed by mid 2020. [2]
