Villawood is a railway station on the Main Southern railway line of the Sydney Trains network, serving the Sydney suburb of the same name. The station has a single island platform with a footbridge to River Ave.

Villawood is staffed from 6:00am to 2:00pm on weekdays only.[1]

History[]

Villawood station opened on 8 October 1924 when the Main Southern railway line was diverted through Regents Park. To the south of the station lies the Southern Sydney Freight Line that opened in January 2013.

Historically, Villawood was served by both Inner West and Bankstown line services, both running between the City and Liverpool via Lidcombe and Bankstown respectively. The Inner West line was cut short to Homebush in 2013, leaving only the Bankstown line serving Villawood. The Bankstown line will be reconfigured after Sydney Metro Southwest opens. It is likely that services through Villawood will again run via Lidcombe.

Configuration[]

Villawood has a single island platform. Crossovers at either end of the station allow trains from either direction to terminate on either platform. These crossovers are rarely used.

Platforms and Services[]

Villawood is served by the Liverpool branch of the T3 Bankstown Line. There are usually two trains per hour in each direction.
