Toongabbie railway station is located on the Main Western railway line and is 30km from Sydney CBD.[1] It serves the residential and shopping area within Toongabbie. The station consists of 2 islands (forming 4 platforms), with access from Wentworth Avenue and Portico Parade. Toongabbie is serviced by T1 Western and T5 Cumberland line trains in both directions.
Toongabbie is staffed from 6:00am to 7:00pm on weekdays, and 8:00am to 4:00pm on weekends and public holidays.[2]
History[]
Toongabbie station opened on 26 April 1880. The station was rebuilt in the 1940s when the Main Western line was quadrupled.
Upgrade[]
In 2015, it was announced that, under the Transport Access Program, Toongabbie station would receive a station upgrade. Construction began in May 2017 with major addtions including but not limited to:[3]
- the installation of lifts to the Concourse and Platforms,
- widening of the footbridge to allow for ticketing and passenger information facilities,
- new kiss and ride facilities,
- installation of new accessible toilets in existing station buildings and,
- new weather protection canopies.
The upgrade was completed and opened to the public in May 2018.[4]
