Thornleigh is a station on the Main Northern railway line of the Sydney Trains network, serving the Sydney suburb of the same name. The station has a footbridge connecting the platforms to entrances on The Esplanade and Station St, and a two storey commuter carpark on The Esplanade.

Thornleigh is staffed from 6:00am to 7:00pm on weekdays, and 8:00am to 4:00pm on weekends and public holidays.[1]

History[]

Thornleigh station opened on 17 September 1886. Platform 1 is located on a loop and does not have any booked passenger workings.

To the north of the station, a line previously branched off to a quarry.

The local control panel was closed on 12 November 2006, with control transferred to Strathfield Signal Box. Control of Thornleigh was again transferred to the new Homebush Signal Box in October 2008.

Although not marked as such, platform 3 is wheelchair accessible, having level access to the street. Early planning is underway to make the other platforms accessible as well. This upgrade is part of the Transport Access Program, and is expected to be completed in 2023.[2]
