Taree railway station is a regional station on the NSW TrainLink Regional North Coast line. It serves the town of Taree, and is a major regional transport hub.
History[]
In 1910 a contract was awarded to J Allibone to build the station. Taree station opened on 5 February 1913, when the line was extended from Dungog. It served as the terminus of the line until 12 April 1915, when the line was extended to Wauchope. In 1929 the original station building was demolished and a new brick station building and railway refreshment room was provided. On 2 April 1999, the station was added to the NSW State Heritage Register. In 2009, the station received new platform canopies. [1] [2] [3]
Planning is underway for a station upgrade at Taree to improve accessibility, as part of the Transport Access Program. The upgrade is expected to be completed by 2023. [4]
Platforms and Services[]
There are six trains that stop at Taree station daily, three heading northbound and three going to Sydney. Because it is a regional station, passengers are required to buy their tickets online prior to their trip. The station is an interchange for a number of regional coaches going to places such as Casino, Grafton, Newcastle and Sydney. [5]
