Tarana railway station is a small station on the Main Western railway line.

History[]

The station opened on 22 April 1872 as a part of the Main Western line. It soon received another platform as the line was duplicated. A branch line from Tarana to Oberon was opened on 3 October 1923, but closed in 1979. Traffic on the Main Western line started to decrease in the 70s as freight trains were diverted to use other lines. As the amount of traffic no longer required double track, the up track was lifted, leaving a disused platform. In 2019, Tarana was added as a stop on Bathurst Bullet services.

Services[]

The single operational platform at Tarana is now numbered 1 and all trains depart from this platform. The station is served by NSW TrainLink intercity and regional trains. The station is served by four Bathurst Bullet (Blue Mountains) services per day, the Broken Hill Xplorer (weekly) and the Dubbo XPT (daily). All trains stop on request only.
