Tamworth is a station on the Main Northern railway line. It is served by NSW TrainLink as part of its North Western Region, with daily Xplorer services to Sydney and Armidale, as well as coach services to nearby towns. It consists of one island platform, with faces on the main line and a short, disused siding. If you go to the station at night, there are lights that change colour.

History[]

Tamworth railway station opened on 9 January 1882, when the line was extended from West Tamworth to Quirindi. [1]

The station was added to the NSW State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. [2]

Tamworth station appeared in the 1971 Australian film 3 to Go, as part of the Judy vignette.

Configuration[]

Tamworth station has a single side platform, as well as a disused dock platform at the southern end that was formerly used by the Barraba line rail motor service.

Services[]

Tamworth station is served by the Northern Tablelands Express Xplorer every day going from Sydney to Armidale and back. The Sydney service departs at 10:27am, while the Armidale service departs at 3:37pm. [3]
