Tallawong metro station (formerly known as Cudgegong Road) is the north-western terminus of the Metro North West Line. It serves the suburb of Rouse Hill and surrounding areas, such as The Ponds and Schofields. The station is located between Themeda Avenue and Implexa Parade, near Cudgegong Road. Tallawong Station is 47 kilometres north west of Sydney CBD.
Tallawong is staffed from 10 minutes before the first metro service until 10 minutes after the last metro service everyday.[1]
History[]
Though various forms of a rail line to Rouse Hill were proposed by the NSW Government between 1998 and 2010, these generally terminated at Rouse Hill Town Centre. A 2001 plan had the line continue north-west rather than west from Rouse Hill, with the next stop at Box Hill. Tallawong only emerged as a station location in 2012, with the government favouring a future corridor heading west from Rouse Hill towards the existing Schofields railway station and the future growth area of Marsden Park.
During the construction period, Tallawong station was known as Cudgegong Road (named after the eponymous road in Rouse Hill). In December 2017, the Geographical Names Board of New South Wales launched a consultation to rename the station as Tallawong, named after Tallawong Road. The renaming was confirmed in April 2018. It was said that the station was renamed because Aboriginal people said that it was special and sacred. The word 'Tallawong' means comes from the Aboriginal Dharug/Darug word ‘dalawang’, meaning apple gum tree.
Tallawong station officially opened on 26th May 2019. Like all other stations on the Metro North West Line, it is operated by Northwest Rapid Transit (NRT), who were also responsible for the design of the station.

Configuration[]
Tallawong is a open-cut station with platforms located 6m below street level. There are station entries from Themeda Avenue and Implexa Parade, on the northern side of the station. The station entrance and concourse is located at street level on the northern side, establishing a public forecourt for a future village centre. Covering the station is a giant canopy with leaf-shaped structures, based on the bluegum leaf.
Emphasis is placed on pedestrian access at the station and a dedicated pedestrian bridge across the rail line will provide direct connections to the local shops and commercial activities. Access to Tallawong’s bus interchange is on Implexa Parade.
Each of the 8 new Northwest stations on the Sydney Metro network has a colour code used on escalators, lifts and other structures. Tallawong’s colour is green.
Tallawong was designed with provision for a future 3rd platform, hence the platform numbering. It was originally meant to be a 2 island station but was now 1 island because of platforms 2 and 3. If TfNSW were to build another island for the third rail next to platform 2 (in which there is space), that would be platform 1. Platform 2 is on the down track and platform 3 is on a loop line. Most trains depart from platform 2, with platform 3 usually used for out-of-service trains.
