Chester Hill Sefton Birrong

Sefton railway station is on the Main Southern railway line of the Sydney Trains network. It serves the suburb of Sefton. Station entry is through a set of stairs and lift from an overpass on Wellington Road.

Sefton is staffed from 6:00am to 2:00pm on weekdays only.[1] The station had 900 entries and 760 exits on a typical day in 2019.[2]

History of Sefton

The station opened on 8 October 1924 when the Main South line was diverted via Regents Park. The Southern Sydney Freight Line passes south of the station and opened in 2013. East of the station lies Sefton Park Junction, a triangle junction between the Main South and Bankstown railway lines.

Historically, Sefton was served by both Inner West and Bankstown line services, running betwen Liverpool and the City via Lidcombe and Bankstown respectively. This changed in 2013, when the Inner West line was cut short to Homebush, leaving only the Bankstown line at Leightonfield. When Sydney Metro City & Southwest opens in 2024, the old Inner West services will likely be restored.
