Rydal railway station located in the Central West NSW town of Rydal, is a heritage-listed station that has been serving the community for over a century. The station was officially opened on 1 July 1870 and has since undergone several upgrades, including the construction of a second platform in 1915. Today, the station is a significant landmark in the town and has been added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register as an important historical site.

History[]

Rydal Station opened on 1 July 1870.

Over the years, the station has played a critical role in connecting Rydal to other parts of the state. In 1998, the line was singled, and the track alongside the second platform was lifted. Currently, Rydal station serves the Blue Mountains line and the NSW TrainLink Western Line. Passengers can catch two morning services to Sydney Central, two evening services to Lithgow, and four daily services to Bathurst on the Blue Mountains Line. The Western Line offers services to Sydney Central and Dubbo, but they are reserved for booked passengers only.

On 16 September 2019, the station saw an increase in services with the Bathurst Bullet making stops at Rydal. Prior to that, only the Dubbo XPT stopped at the station. This development has been beneficial to the Rydal community, making it easier for residents to travel to other parts of the state for work or leisure.

The station building itself is a well-preserved example of railway architecture and has been repurposed as a library. Visitors to Rydal station can explore the charming building's history while browsing through the collection of books and other materials. The disused second platform offers a glimpse into the station's past and serves as a reminder of the many changes that have taken place over the years.
