Royal Randwick is a light rail stop on the L2 City & Southeast Line. It is located on the northern side of Alison Road in Randwick, serving Centennial Park and Royal Randwick Racecourse.
The stop was originally planned to be placed directly outside Royal Randwick Racecourse. Due to a request from the Australian Turf Club, the stop was moved to the other side of Alison Rd, which complicated construction and meant several decades-old fig trees needed to be cut down.
The stop was known as Alison Rd during construction, with Centennial Park or Royal Randwick Racecourse proposed as final names.[1] Centennial Park was favoured as it has many more visitors than the racecourse and the Geographical Names Board (GNB) guidelines state to avoid commercial names. However, the government ignored this and used Royal Randwick as the final name.[2]
The stop opened on 14 December 2019. The stop consists of 1 island platform. Immediately west of the stop is the junction for access to Randwick Stabling Facility. All crew changes for L2 services occur at this stop.
