Rosehill railway station is a former station located in the Sydney suburb of Rosehill. It was served by the Carlingford line of the Sydney Trains network.
History[]
Rosehill station opened on 17 November 1888. The station was relocated to its current site on 14 May 1959.
It lies at the end of a double track section from the Main Western line junction at Clyde. The station has two platforms, a four car platform on the Carlingford branch, and a 16 car platform on the Sandown line, which was used by Rosehill Gardens Racecourse trains on selected racedays.
Station Closure[]
The majority of the Carlingford railway line is proposed to be converted to light rail as part of the Parramatta Light Rail project. The two stations on the line that are not on the light rail route are Rosehill and Clyde. It is proposed to permanently close both the Carlingford and Sandown lines to enable light rail construction to proceed. This included the permanent closure of Rosehill station on 5th January 2020, with Camellia to serve as its replacement on the new light rail route.
The Rosehill Station site will likely be demolished, with tracks and platforms to be removed. Demolishing the old station is to likely open up space for possible redevelopment, much like the former Ropes Creek and Newcastle stations. The footbridge will likely stay intact due to historic value. As part of the Sydney Metro West project, Rosehill was planned at one point receive a new metro-only station, to help service the Rosehill Gardens precinct during race days and special events. The metro station plan has since been abandoned.
