Riverwood railway station, is on the East Hills railway line of the Sydney Trains network. It serves the suburb of Riverwood. The station has a single island platform, with an overhead concourse at the eastern end off Belmore Rd. The station is fully wheelchair accessible.

Riverwood is staffed 24 hours everyday.[1]

History[]

Herne Bay station opened on 21 December 1931 when the East Hills railway line was extended from Kingsgrove to East Hills. It was then a single unelectrified track. Two platforms were provided at Herne Bay, one facing a passing loop and the other facing the main line. The line was duplicated between Herne Bay and Kingsgrove, with a crossover for terminating trains at Herne Bay (which has since been removed), in 1948. It was renamed Riverwood on 10 March 1958. The line was later also duplicated beyond Riverwood and extended to Glenfield.

In 2002, Riverwood received an accessibility upgrade, with a new lift connecting the station entry to the platform. A commemorative plaque to celebrate the opening of the upgraded station currently sits on the wall, near the former ticket window.

In 2013, as part of the quadruplication of the line from Kingsgrove to Revesby, through lines were added on either side of the existing pair.

A new commuter car park is being planned at Riverwood, as part of the government's $3 billion Infrastructure and Job Acceleration Fund. [2]
