Regents Park railway station is on the Main South Line of the Sydney Trains network. It serves the suburb of Regents Park. Station entry is through a set of stairs and lift from an overpass on Park Road.
Regents Park is staffed 24 hours everyday.[1]
History[]
The original Regents Park station opened on 11 November 1912 when a line was built from Lidcombe. The present station opened on 8 October 1924, when the Main South line was extended to Cabramatta in an attempt to reduce overcrowding on the Main Western railway line.
Until it closed in April 1966, Regents Park was the junction for a line to Potts Hill Reservoir and sidings serving an industrial complex to the north-west of the station.
Configuration[]
Regents Park has a single island platform, with faces on both tracks of the Main South line. Immediately south of the platform is a crossover allowing northbound trains to terminate on platform 1. This crossover is rarely used.
To the south of the station lies Sefton Park (triangle) Junction. Trains can turn south towards Bankstown via the Bankstown line or west towards Liverpool, continuing on the Main South line. The Southern Sydney Freight Line passes beneath the junction.
Platforms and Services[]
Historically, Regents Park was served by both the Inner West (City to Liverpool via Lidcombe) & Bankstown (City to Lidcombe via Bankstown) lines.
A major timetable change in 2013 reconfigured the network such that Regents Park is now served only by Bankstown line services. There is usually one train every 15 minutes in each direction, dropping to 30 minutes on weekends. Three trains per day continue to use the former Inner West route. Additionally, trains occasionally are diverted onto the former Inner West route due to trackwork.
The network will be reconfigured again when Sydney Metro City & Southwest opens. The station will be served by services on both branches (City-Liverpool, Lidcombe-Bankstown) of the Bankstown line. It happened on Oct 19
