Norwest metro station is a new station on the Metro North West Line of the Sydney Metro network. It serves the suburb of Baulkham Hills, and the Norwest Business Park precinct. It has one island platform and is fully underground.

Norwest is staffed from 10 minutes before the first metro service until 10 minutes after the last metro service everyday.[1]

History[]

Norwest is named after the nearby Norwest Business Park, which is one of Sydney's largest business parks, covering 172 hectares in area.

The NSW Government announced a future railway line to Castle Hill as part of its Action for Public Transport strategy in 1998. A more specific but longer-term plan presented by Co-ordinator General of Rail Ron Christie three years later included a 'Mungerie Park Line', with a station at Norwest Business Park. In the years that followed, Norwest Station formed part of successive north-western rail proposals, including the Metropolitan Rail Expansion Plan in 2005 and a short-lived metro proposal in 2008.

Following a change of government with the election of the O'Farrell Government in 2011, work on the North West Rail Link commenced in 2013. As part of the approved proposal, an additional station, Bella Vista, was added within the business park.

Norwest station officially opened on 26th May 2019. Like all other stations on the Metro North West Line, it is operated by Northwest Rapid Transit (NRT), who are also responsible for the design of the station, as part of its "Operations, Trains and Systems" contract with Transport for NSW.

Features[]

Norwest Metro Station includes the following facilities:

  • 35 bicycle storage spaces
  • 9 local taxi stands
  • 8 kiss-and-ride spaces
  • 2 local bus stops

Configuration[]

Norwest Station is an underground station 22m below street level. As the station's name suggests, it is placed in the centre of the Norwest Business Park district, allowing easy access to the business park areas and Marketown Shopping Centre.

Station access and entry is via the corner of Norwest Boulevard and Brookhollow Avenue, Baulkham Hills. Like most of the Metro Northwest stations, it is covered by a giant glass canopy with leaf-shaped structures which allows natural light to filter into the concourse and platforms below. A second adjacent entrance directly linking to the concourse is also located at Century Circuit.

Each of the 8 new Northwest stations on the Sydney Metro network has a colour code used on escalators, lifts and other structures. Norwest’s colour is light orange.
