The Northwest Rapid Transit (NRT) consortium, operating as Metro Trains Sydney Pty. Ltd (MTS), is the current operator of Sydney Metro. The group is a joint venture between:[1][2]
- Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation (60% stake)
- John Holland (20% stake)
- UGL Rail Services (20% stake)
These company's hold responsibility for the design, construction and operation of the Metro system and rolling stock for a 15-year period.[3] The consortium also employs the services of:
- Leighton Contractors - part of a four way joint venture between John Holland Group, MTR and UGL Rail Services to deliver the infrastructure and rail systems and,
- Plenary Group - the financial sponsor and capital arranger.
The NRT services the Sydney Metro Northwest line and is also going to host the Sydney Metro City & Southwest line by 2024 as it connects Chatswood to the CBD to Bankstown.
