Muswellbrook is a railway station located on the Hunter Line. The station consists of 1 platform in a side formation. It serves the suburb of Muswellbrook. The station is also included as a stop on NSW TrainLink's regional services to and from Armidale and Moree.
History[]
In May 1868, construction on the station began. The station building, that opened when the station did, is still intact and in use today. The station opened as Musclebrook on 19 May 1869. It was renamed to Muswellbrook on 1 September 1890, and the platform was lengthened in 1891, and again in 1898 and 1911. [1] [2]
In 1923, the refreshment rooms at the station opened, and in 1927, they were extended. On 2 April 1999, the station was added to the NSW State Heritage Register. In 2007 approval was given for 2-staged refurbishment of the railway refreshment rooms as a museum. [3]
In 2010, the station platform was resurfaced. [4]
