Museum railway station is an underground station that is part of the City Circle, underneath the southern end of Hyde Park.
The station is named after the Australian Museum, which is in close walking distance from the station. Other places of interest nearby include Hyde Park and Downing Centre Local & District Court.
Museum railway station received an upgrade as part of the Transport Access Program. Many improvements were made, such as three new lifts, an accessible ramp, a new family accessible toilet and refurbishments of the toilets within the concourse. Construction began in May 2015 and was completed in November 2016.[1]
Configuration[]
Museum is an underground station built using the cut-and-cover method. It has two side platforms serving the inner and outer tracks of the City Circle, connected to two concourses at the southern and northern ends of the station.
The northern concourse has exits through several pedestrian tunnels to Elizabeth St, Bathurst St and Castlereagh St.
The southern concourse has exits to Elizabeth St, Liverpool St and Castlereagh St. The toilets are located in the southern concourse, along with the three lifts (Elizabeth St Main Entrance to Concourse, Concourse to Platform 1 and Concourse to Platform 2).
For security reasons, all exits except the main entrance on Elizabeth St are closed at night and on weekends and public holidays.
