Moss Vale is a station located on the Main Southern railway line in the Southern Highlands of NSW. The station consists of 2 platforms, in a wide island configuration. Access to the station is provided from Argyle Street.
Moss Vale is served by NSW TrainLink passenger services. It is the main southern terminus of the Southern Highlands Line. Southern Region Xplorer services to Canberra and XPT services to Melbourne also stop at the station. There is also a number of sidings near the station, mostly used by Pacific National for freight, as well as NSW TrainLink for overnight stabling of their Endeavour railcars.
The station is known for having a particularly wide island platform.
History[]
Moss Vale railway station opened with one side platform on 2 December 1867 as Sutton Forest. The station was the terminus of the line for 8 months, until it was extended to Marulan on 6 August 1868. It was renamed to Moss Vale in 1877. [1]
In 1882, the platform was lengthened. In 1914, the station was converted to an island platform, as part of duplication works on the Southern line. Pedestrian bridges were built in 1915. The station was added to the NSW State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.[2]
Between June and December 2013, a new 56 space commuter car park was built to the north as part of the Transport Access Program.[3]
Early stages of planning are underway for an upgrade of the station, also part of the Transport Access Program. Key features being considered for the upgrade are improved accessibility to the station, with new lifts and improved footpaths and pedestrian bridges. [4]
