Morisset is a station on the Main North railway line. The station has two platforms. The station is served by intercity trains to Sydney and Newcastle on the Newcastle and Central Coast line. Although Morisset has fairly high patronage, it is not serviced by NSW TrainLink regional services.
History
The station opened with one platform as Morrisset on 15 August 1887 and was renamed Morisset on 1 February 1889. During construction, the station was called Coorumbung. The construction of the Sydney to Newcastle line through Morisset led to the downfall of thriving local community Cooranbong, which was the point which river shipments landed.
By 1910, the section of the railway line at Morisset had been duplicated, and the station received a second side platform. In 1937, a new station building was built.
In May 1984, the line was electrified between Newcastle and Gosford, so Morisset station began to be served by electric trains. The station was also largely redeveloped as part of the project.
In 1996, the station had major upgrades, including a new footbridge and platform shelters. The footbridge was built with lifts, making Morisset wheelchair acessible. In 2012, the station received new canopies. [1]
