Mittagong railway station is a station located on the Southern Highlands Line. The station consists of 2 platforms, in a double side formation. Access to the station is provided from Regent Street and Railway Parade.
History[]
Mittagong station opened with one platform on 1st March 1867.[1]
A second platform was added to the station, along with buildings, when the line was duplicated in 1912. The current pedestrian footbridge was built in 1920. The station was added to the NSW State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.[2]
In 2014, Mittagong received a station upgrade as part of the Transport Access Program. Improvements included a new accessible ramp to platform 1 and improve safety features including tactile surfacing, lighting and CCTV surveillance cameras. Constructing commenced in February and was finished in October.[3]
In January 2020, major construction began on an accessibility upgrade at Mittagong, also part of the Transport Access Program. Key benefits include two new lifts, improved amenities and improvements to CCTV and lighting to improve safety. The upgrade was completed in September of the same year.[4]
Platforms and Services[]
Bowral is served by NSW TrainLink's intercity Southern Highlands line and regional Southern line. Regional Southern line trains only stop at the station if passsengers are booked to use the station, except for the Sydney-bound Canberra/Griffith Xplorer on Thursdays and Sundays, which always makes a stop at the station.
