Minto is a station on the Main Southern railway line of the Sydney Trains network, serving the south-western Sydney suburb of the same name. The station has two side platforms, connected by an accessible footbridge to Minto Road and Somerset Street.
Just south of the station is Minto Intermodal Sidings, with a crossover to allow trains from the sidings to cross to the up track. This crossover can also be used as an emergency crossover for terminating northbound trains, however this is very rare as such a movement is unsignalled. Just to the north is a series of trackside sensors that check for hot wheels, hot bearings and dragging equipment on passing trains on both tracks.
Minto is staffed from 6:00am to 7:00pm on weekdays, and 8:00am to 4:00pm on weekends and public holidays.[1]
History[]
Minto station opened in May 1874 as Campbellfields, being renamed to Minto on 1 March 1882. The station formerly had long ramps on both sides make the footbridge accessible.
The Southern Sydney Freight Line passes by the western side of the station. As part of its construction work, the footbridge was rebuilt to cross the new freight line, with the ramp on the western side demolished. As required by the DDA, lifts were added as part of this work.
Platforms and Services[]
Minto is served by Sydney Trains T8 Airport & South services. There are 8 trains per hour during the peak, dropping to 4 per hour at other times. Before 2017, there were also Cumberland/South services to Liverpool and beyond. Customers for these stations now need to change at Glenfield.
