Menangle Park railway station is a station located on the Main Southern line. The station consists of 2 platforms, in a double side formation. Access to the station is provided from Racecourse Avenue.
History[]
The line through this location opened on 1 September 1862. The first feature to be built at this location was a junction and siding to a station at Menangle Racecourse, located just to the west of the current station, which opened on 14 May 1914. Menangle Park station opened next on the main line on 26 September 1937. The racecourse platform/siding closed in February 1963. There is now no trace of the junction, however the racecourse platform still remains.
Configuration and Services[]
The station is simple, having two short side platforms, with a pedestrian level crossing at the northern end. There are two crossovers south of the station to allow both tracks between Menangle Park and Macarthur to be bi-directional. These are usually used by passenger trains to overtake stopped freight trains waiting to the enter the single track South Sydney Freight Line (or Glenlee Colliery before it closed).
The station is served by NSW TrainLink Southern Highlands line services, usually at the frequency of 1 per hour in each direction. Menangle Park is also frequently used by freight trains for crew changeovers.
