On the NSW TrainLink intercity network, some stations are marked as short platforms in which the whole train cannot fit the platform. Short platform categories designate which carriages that customers must board/alight from.
Starting in 2024, D Sets will replace V and H Sets on all electrified intercity lines (the latter will be moved to suburban duties). This will introduce new categories, SP8# (alight from front 8 cars) and SP8 (alight from rear 8 cars), and all categories will be altered to apply only to the front (insert number) carriages.
Categories are based on the following trains:
- V Set (Blue Mountains Line, Central Coast & Newcastle Line)
- H Set (Central Coast & Newcastle Line, South Coast Line)
- Endeavour (Southern Highlands Line, Hunter Line)
- Hunter Railcar (Hunter Line)
