Lewisham railway station, is on the Main Suburban line of the Sydney Trains network. It serves the inner-western suburb of Lewisham. The platforms can be accessed from a subway with entrances on Victoria St/Railway Terrace and Thomas St. The subway often floods in heavy rain due to the topography of the surrounding land.
Located within walking distance of the station is the Lewisham West light rail stop. Lewisham is staffed from 6:00am to 7:00pm on weekdays only.[1] The station is not accessible.
History[]
Lewisham station opened in 1886 and moved site on 19 December 1891. The Main Suburban line through Lewisham was quadruplicated in 1892, and sextuplicated in 1927 in association with electrification works.
As part of the 1892 work, the northern side platform was converted to an island platform and a new platform constructed on the most northern line. The former was trimmed back to a single platform, and the latter demolished as part of the 1927 works. In September 1990, Lewisham closed for three months as the first station that CityRail upgraded.
Platforms and Services[]
The station is served by all-stops services on the T2 Inner West line, usually with a train every 15 minutes during the off-peak.
