Leightonfield is a railway station on the Main Southern railway line of the Sydney Trains network. It serves the Sydney suburb Villawood. The station has two side platform, with a footbridge to an entrance on Christina Road.

Leightonfield is staffed from 6:00am to 2:00pm on weekdays only.[1] The station has fairly low patronage, with 270 entries and 320 exits on a typical day in 2019.[2]

History[]

Leightonfield station opened on 24 August 1942 to service the adjacent munitions factory. It was transferred from Federal to State Government ownership on 1 February 1962. To the south of the station lies the Southern Sydney Freight Line that opened in January 2013.

Historically Leightonfield was served by both Inner West and Bankstown line services, running betwen Liverpool and the City via Lidcombe and Bankstown respectively. This changed in 2013, when the Inner West line was cut short to Homebush, leaving only the Bankstown line at Leightonfield. When Sydney Metro City & Southwest opens in 2024, the old Inner West services will likely be restored.

Platforms and Services[]

Leightonfield is served by Liverpool branch T3 Bankstown line services, usually at the frequency of 2 per hour in each direction.
