Kogarah railway station is located along the Main Illawarra line and is 11.61km from Sydney CBD.[1] It serves the suburbs of Kogarah and Bexley. The station consists of 2 side platforms and 1 island and is accessed from Station Street and Railway Parade. Kogarah is serviced by T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra line trains in both directions.
Kogarah is staffed 24 hours everyday.[2]
History[]
Kogarah station opened on 15 October 1884 on the same date as the Illawarra line from Redfern to Hurstville with two side platforms. An island platform was later added in the middle of the platform area, with the two side platforms becoming what is now platforms 1 and 4, while the island platform is platforms 2 and 3.
June 2011, construction began on a transport interchange upgrade at Kogarah as part of the Transport Access Program. The station forecourt was redesigned and many facilities on nearby roads were upgraded such as taxi zones, a pedestrian crossing and bicycle facilities. Construction was completed by April 2012.[3]
The station concourse links directly to a small shopping mall called Kogarah Town Centre, which has been built directly over the railway platforms and beside them on Railway Parade. However, unlike Hurstville station (which has almost the entire platform area covered by Hurstville Central Shopping Centre), only half of the platform area at Kogarah is covered.
