Kingsgrove is a railway station on the East Hills railway line of the Sydney Trains network, serving the Sydney suburb of the same name.

Kingsgrove is staffed 24 hours everyday.[1]

History[]

Kingsgrove station opened on 21 September 1931 when the East Hills line opened from Tempe to East Hills. It was the original terminus of the double track electrified section from Tempe. Until 1939, passengers transferred at Kinsgrove to a CPH railmotor or steam service to continue their journey towards East Hills. The line was duplicated and electrified beyond Kingsgrove in 1948.

In 2000, as part of the quadruplication of the line from Wolli Creek to just west of Kingsgrove station, through lines were added on either side of the existing pair and a turnback was added. In 2013, the quadruplication was extended to Revesby as part of the Rail Clearways Program.

On 6 October 2000, an eight car Tangara, derailed at low speed near Kingsgrove station causing the rear three carriages from set T30 to topple onto their side. The derailment was caused by a track buckling as a result of high temperatures. Ten people were hospitalised. As a result of the accident, some of the panels on the side of the carriages on T30 had to be replaced; this is most notably seen on motor car N5159.

Configuration[]

Kingsgrove consists of a single island platform facing the local tracks of the East Hills line. There are stairs up to both sides of Kingsgrove Rd and a lift to the west side of Kingsgrove Rd. There is a turnback between the local tracks west of Kingsgrove to allow outbound trains to terminate.

Services[]

Kingsgrove is served by all stations T8 Airport & South services, usually at a frequency of 4 trains per hour. During trackwork, there are sometimes extra services between Kingsgrove and the City, using the turnback to terminate.
