International Airport railway station, also known as International and International Terminal, is on the New Southern railway line of the Sydney Trains network. It serves the T1 International terminal at Sydney Airport. Station entry is through escalators and a lift in the T1 International terminal area.
International Airport is staffed from 5:00am to 11:30pm everyday.[1]
History[]
International Airport station opened on 21 May 2000 when the Airport Link opened from Central to Wolli Creek. Like other stations on the line, International Airport was built and is operated by the Airport Link Company as part of a public–private partnership.
Ticketing[]
As part of the contract to build the line, an access fee is levied to recover the costs of building the line. Although often perceived as all going to the Airport Link Company, under the revenue sharing agreement, from August 2014, 85% of revenues raised by the access fee go to the State Government.
The ticket gates at airport stations will not allow passengers to exit with a negative balance on their card, unlike at other stations. An extra Opal topup machine is provided in the paid area so passengers are not trapped inside the station. This was implemented due to a large number of passengers avoiding the high station access fee by going into negative balance and throwing away their card. As well as this, they are the only stations with ticket windows and also the only stations where new Opal cards can be obtained.
Platforms and Services[]
International Airport is served by Sydney Trains T8 services, usually at a frequency of 8 trains per hour in each direction.
