Hurlstone Park is a station on the Bankstown railway line of the Sydney Trains network, located in the inner western Sydney suburb of the same name. It has two side platforms, connected by stairs and lifts to a small entrance off the Floss St overpass.
Hurlstone Park is staffed from 6:00am to 7:00pm on weekdays only. [1]
History[]
Hurlstone Park station opened on 1 February 1895 as Fern Hill when the Bankstown line opened from Sydenham to Belmore. It was renamed to Hurlstone Park on 19 August 1911.
Sydney Metro conversion[]
Hurlstone Park will be converted to a metro station as part of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project. Original plans called for a complete rebuild of the existing Floss St entrance, as well as straightening of the platforms. This was scaled back, with the overhead booking office not rebuilt but encased in a new metal structure, and gap fillers substituted for platform straightening. The stairs were moved slightly to allow for a lift to be installed, and both platform buildings were extensively renovated to house equipment. The majority of this work was completed in 2023, with the exception of gap fillers, which were installed in early 2024.
The station, along with the rest of line between Sydenham and Bankstown, will close in 2024 for around 12 months. During this closure, final conversion works will be completed, including installation of platform screen doors.
Configuration[]
The station has a small entrance off the Floss St overpass. Located at this entrance is a ticket office and one Opal Phase 2 card + cash topup machine. There are two sets of stairs and lifts connecting this entrance to the two side platforms.
Platform 1 faces the Up Bankstown track, while platform 2 faces the Down Bankstown track. To the north, the double track Metropolitan Freight Line passes by. Platform 1 does also face the Down Goods line, however this face is fenced off as the line is no longer used by passenger trains. Both platforms have similar, heritage listed buildings, which are closed to the public, apart from the toilets in the platform 1 building which are open when the station is staffed.
Platforms and Services[]
Hurlstone Park is served by Sydney Trains' T3 Bankstown Line services. Only all stations trains stop, usually at a frequency of 4 per hour in each direction.
