Greta is a minor, unattended station located on the Main North railway line, 210.8km from Sydney Central. The station consists of 2 platform in a double side formation. It serves the towns of Greta and North Rothbury in the Hunter Valley region of NSW. Station entry is off Nelson St.

History[]

The station opened with one platform on 6 September 1869 as Farthing station. It was renamed Greta in 1878.[1][2]

The station building was built in 1889. The second platform was built in 1915, and the footbridge was installed in 1922.[1]

The station was originally built with low-level, 60m long, gravel platforms. The eastern 25m of each platform was later built up to the current standard height and asphalted. The remaining section is no longer in use. The station was added to the NSW State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.[3]

Greta received a station upgrade completed in March 2013 to improve accessibility at the station. Improvements included redesigning and rebuilding the existing ramps on both sides of the station and the entrances. The upgrade was part of the Transport Access Program.[4]

Services[]

Greta is served by NSW TrainLink's Hunter line services. Services are infrequent, with a train every few hours. As only a short part of the platform is usable, only the middle 2 doors will open at Greta.
