Gordon is a station on the North Shore railway line of the Sydney Trains network, serving the northern Sydney suburb of the same name. Station entry is from Werona Avenue and St Johns Avenue. The station is heritage listed.

Gordon is staffed from 6:00am to 10:00pm everyday.[1]

History[]

Gordon Railway Station was opened on 1 January 1890, along with the North Shore line, then running to St Leonard's. It originally only had a single platform. The station was rebuilt with the duplication of the line in 1909. It now had 3 platforms, with an island platform facing the main line tracks, as well as a side platform to the east facing a turnback track. A footbridge with an attached booking office connected the platforms to the street. There was also a goods siding to the west of the main line and a signal box on the platform.

Originally, northbound services terminated on platform 2 or 3, with southbound services using either platform 1 or 2 and through northbound services using platform 3. During the removal of the goods siding, the arrangement of the crossovers was changed. Trains from either direction can now terminate on platform 2, with platforms 1 and 3 used exclusively for through trains.

The station was made wheelchair accessible in 2006, with lifts being installed between the footbridge and the platforms.

Since the 1990s, a number of car parks have been built. In 2014, the bus stop on the station's western side was demolished to make way for a three-storey carpark and bus interchange. The new interchange opened in early June 2015.

Platforms and Services[]

Gordon is served by Sydney Trains T1/9 services, as well as some NSW TrainLink Central Coast services during peak hours. It serves as an intermediate terminus on the T1 and T9 lines. The T9 is depicted as ending at Gordon on maps, however most services actually continue to Hornsby or Berowra, being displayed as T1 services.
