Glenbrook railway station is a station located on the Main Western railway line, in the lower Blue Mountains region. The station consists of 2 platforms, in a single island formation. Access to the station is provided from Burfitt Parade.
History[]
Glenbrook [1st] station opened on 11 July 1867 when the Main Western railway line was extended to Blaxland.[1] The line was later deviated between Lapstone Hill and Blaxland and a new Glenbrook station built, as the original route was steep and unsuitable for duplication.[2] The deviation and the current station opened on 11 May 1913, with the old station closing on 25 September 1913.
On 2 December 1999, a Blue Mountains line train collided with the Indian Pacific near Glenbrook, with 4 fatalities and many more injuries. The Indian Pacific had stopped at a failed signal while contacting the signaller, while the Blue Mountains line train had been authorised to pass the previous signal, which had also failed. The Blue Mountains train was travelling too fast to stop short of an obstruction, as required when passing a failed signal, and struck the Indian Pacific. The incident became known as the Glenbrook rail disaster.[3]
Configuration[]
Glenbrook has one island platform, with faces on both tracks of the Main Western railway line. It is located in a cutting. There is one main platform building and a small traffic hut, with a control panel for two emergency crossovers on the western side of the station. The station has one Opal phase 2 card only ticket machine. There is a single entrance off Burfitt Pde, leading across a footbridge and then stairs and a lift down to platform level. The station also has a commuter carpark and bike lockers for hire.

Glenbrook is served by NSW TrainLink Blue Mountains Line trains, usually at the frequency of one per hour, with additional services during the peak.
