Clarendon is a station and passing loop on the Richmond branch line. It is 57.2km from Central.[1] It serves the suburb of Clarendon as well as a nearby racecourse. The station consists of 2 side platforms, accessed by a ground-level pedestrian crossing. Clarendon is serviced by T1 Western and T5 Cumberland Line trains in both directions.
The station is staffed from 6am to 2pm on weekdays (Mon-Fri), and is unattended on weekends.[2]
History[]
The station opened in 1870 as Hawkesbury Racecourse and was renamed to its current name on 1 November 1876.
The station originally had one platform on the main line and another facing a siding. One train would have to reverse in/out of the siding to allow another to pass. A signal box was provided on the main line platform to control the points/signals. The station was later reconfigured to its current state with two side platforms and the siding converted to a passing loop.[3]
From November 2013 to April 2014, an accessibility upgrade was made at Clarendon station as part of the Transport Access Program. This included the construction of new accessible ramps, new stairs, and additional CCTV surveillance cameras and lighting.[4]
Planning is underway for another upgrade at Clarendon station. The upgrade will make the station fully accessible. This upgrade will also be part of the Transport Access program.[5]
Platforms[]
The station is served by two trains per hour each way. Trains are timetabled to pass each other at Clarendon.
