Casula is a minor railway station on the Main Southern railway line of the Sydney Trains network, serving the Sydney suburb of the same name. A fully accessbile footbridge at the southern end connects the two platforms to entrances on Casula Rd and Powerhouse Rd. Just east of the station lies the Casula Powerhouse arts centre. Due to its low patronage, Casula is unattended by staff, and is one of the very few suburban Sydney Trains network stations to not be attended by staff at any time.[1]

History[]

Casula station opened on 1 November 1894, with the Casula Rd level crossing connecting the two platforms. In October 1993, a footbridge was installed.

A new road linking Casula Powerhouse to Liverpool, named Powerhouse Rd, opened on 15 September 2012. This allowed the level crossing to close a month later.

The Southern Sydney Freight Line opened in January 2013, passing the station on the eastern side. As the footbridge needed to be extended for passengers to cross the freight line, lifts were added to the footbridge to meet DDA requirements.

A new commuter car park is being planned at Casula, as part of the government's $3 billion Infrastructure and Job Acceleration Fund. [2]

Platforms and Services[]

Casula is served by Sydney Trains T2 and T5 services. There are usually 6 trains per hour in each direction during the weekday offpeak.
