Castle Hill metro station is a new station on the Metro North West Line of the Sydney Metro network in Sydney, Australia. It serves the suburb of Castle Hill, and surrounding areas such as Dural and Glenhaven. The station is located on an intersection of Old Northern Road and Old Castle Hill Road.

Castle Hill is staffed from 10 minutes before the first metro service until 10 minutes after the last metro service everyday.[1]

History[]

The NSW Government announced a future railway line from Epping to Castle Hill as part of its Action for Public Transport strategy in 1998. In the years that followed, Castle Hill Station formed part of successive north-western rail proposals, including the Metropolitan Rail Expansion Plan in 2005 and a short-lived metro proposal in 2008.

Work on the North West Rail Link got underway with the election of the O'Farrell Government in 2011. The new station is currently under construction and is expected to open to passengers in early 2019. The station will be operated by NRT, which was also responsible for the design of the station as part of its "Operations, Trains and Systems" contract with Transport for NSW.

Castle Hill station officially opened on 26th May 2019. Like all other stations on the Metro North West Line, it is operated by Northwest Rapid Transit (NRT), who are also responsible for the design of the station.

Features[]

Castle Hill Metro Station will include the following facilities:

  • Direct access to Castle Towers Shopping Centre from station concourse area
  • 25 bicycle storage spaces
  • 9 local taxi stands
  • 7 kiss-and-ride spaces
  • Access to Castle Hill Bus Interchange

Configuration[]

Castle Hill Station is an underground metro station, located 25m below street level. The station's concourse and platforms are situated underneath Arthur Whitling Park in the Castle Hill main district. The original Arthur Whitling Park was demolished in order to make way for construction of the station, with a new park being built after the station was completed. The refurbished park opened in August 2019.

Station access and entry is via a new entry plaza at an intersection of Old Northern Road and Old Castle Hill Road. The concourse also links a direct corridor to Castle Towers Shopping Centre. In order to make way for the direct link into the station concourse, the shopping centre underwent a major refurbishment, including the construction of a second food court and a new fresh produce area.

Each of the 8 new Northwest stations on the Sydney Metro network has a colour code used on escalators, lifts and other structures. Castle Hill’s colour is red.
