It serves the suburb of Campbelltown, including the local area and shopping precinct. Located east of the station is Campbelltown City Council and Campbelltown Mall shopping centre.
Campbelltown is staffed 24 hours everyday.[1]
History[]
Campbelltown station opened on 17 May 1858. Between 1882 and 1963 it was the junction station for the Campbelltown-Camden line.
On 5 May 1968, the Main South line was electrified from Liverpool. It was the extremity of the Sydney suburban network until it was extended. A new station to the south, Macarthur opened in July 1985. However many services still terminate at Campbelltown.
In 2009, as part of the Transport Access Program, Campbelltown station received a car park extension, which added 380 new car spaces. The upgrade spanned from July to December.[2]
In January 2013, the Southern Sydney Freight Line opened on the western side of the station. The station is surrounded by an extensive network of sidings to stable terminating Sydney Trains rolling stock.
Since the second half of 2017, Campbelltown railway station has been served exclusively by the Airport and East Hills line, meaning commuters have to change at Glenfield to travel to either the city via Granville or to Blacktown/Schofields via the Cumberland Line.

Campbelltown has 4 platforms. Platform 1 is a refuge road, usually used for terminating trains. Platforms 2 and 3 serve the mainline tracks in the up and down directions respectively. Platform 4 is four car long dock platform, usually used for terminating Southern Highlands services.
There is a series of points around the station to allow trains to move in and out of Campbelltown Yard from the north. Trains can terminate from the north on platforms 1-3, but usually use platform 1 so that the mainline is not blocked. Trains can terminate from the south on platforms 1-4, but can only return to the south from platforms 2-4. There is no crossover from the up line to platform 4, so trains use the previous crossover at Macarthur and run on the down line in both directions between Macarthur and Campbelltown.
