Blackheath railway station is a station located on the Blue Mountains Line. The station consists of 2 platforms, in a single island formation. Access to the station is provided from Great Western Highway and Station Street.
History[]
Blackheath station opened on 1st August 1862 with just one platform. The 2nd platform was added on 28th December 1869.
The station's footbridge was erected in 1911. Following a station building fire in c.1982, the station building was reconstructed by 1985. The footbridge was also rebuilt, in 1990. On 2 April 1999, the station was added to the NSW State Heritage Register. [1]
Work is currently underway for a station upgrade at Blackheath as part of the Transport Access Program. Key benefits include three new lifts, upgrades to station footpaths and platforms, upgrade to the station footbridge and stairs, and improvements to CCTV, lighting and wayfinding. Construction began in May 2022, with works expected to be completed by around May 2023.[2][3]
