Summer Hill Ashfield Croydon

Ashfield railway station is on the Main Suburban railway line of the Sydney Trains network. It serves the suburb of Ashfield. The station has 5 platforms, all connected to an overhead concourse with exits onto Brown St and Railway St. The station is fully wheelchair accessible and equipped with ticket gates. The station is also located next to many local amenities, including Ashfield Mall shopping centre.

Ashfield is staffed 24 hours every day.

History

Ashfield station opened on 26 September 1855 as part of the original Sydney to Parramatta line.

In 2002, the station was largely rebuilt with a new concrete aerial concourse and most of the platform buildings were demolished. Before completion of those facilities, the platforms were accessed from two pedestrian subways which incorporated separate booking offices. The western subway remains as a pedestrian thoroughfare.

In March 2017, work commenced on replacing the existing street-level commuter carpark with a new multi-storey carpark. The upgrade added 96 new parking spaces, and featured lifts, new lighting, CCTV surveilance, wayfinding signage and bicycle storage facilities. The car park opened on 24th March, 2018[1]. Just two months later, in May 2018, the carpark was fitted with Opal Park & Ride facilities, meaning parking fees will apply for non-commuters using the carpark.

Platforms and Services

Ashfield is equipped with 2 island platforms (1-4) and a side platform (5). Platforms 1/2 face the suburban pair of tracks and are only used during trackwork. Platforms 3 and 5 face the local pair of tracks and are used by T2 services, usually at a frequency of 8tph. In between is platform 4, a turnback platform used by terminating services during the peak.
